Hello, I am Dr. Benedict Aurian-Blajeni, and I want to introduce KembloX, a system designed to facilitate learning (and also teaching) the Chemistry of Ionic Compounds, by addressing the visual and the tactile (a.k.a. kinesthetic) paths to understanding.
The KembloX system comprises three synergistic parts: A set of complementary blocks, a chart of most common ions, both monatomic and polyatomic, and a four-sided spinning top. The three components share a color code associated with mono-, di-, tri-, and tetravalent ions.
The blocks represent positive and negative ions. They can be assembled and disassembled, according to chemical principles, as detailed on the KembloX.org website.
The chart lists the most common ions. Slight tweaking was applied for seamless integration with the rest of the KembloX system.
The spinning top is used in classroom applications.
Among the topics and concepts that can be illustrated by means of KembloX are
Formula units (a.k.a. empirical formulas)
Naming ionic compounds
Dissociation in solution
Solubility of ionic compounds/solubility chart
Metathesis reactions w/ precipitation
Full ionic equations, net ionic equations & spectator ions
Limiting reactant & excess reactant.
Reaction Yield, both Theoretical and Actual
KembloX™ is especially useful for visually impaired students, and STEM/STEAM programs at all levels benefit from using KembloX™
Thank you for your attention, and please visit the KembloX.org website for more detailed examples of using KembloX for teaching and learning the Ionic Compounds’ Chemistry.
